2 Timothy
This is probably the last letter which Paul wrote which is still extant. The date would be about AD 64-65, and Paul was in prison in Rome, awaiting his death. Paul was alone except for Luke, and was longing for Timothy to come to him and bring John Mark
2 Timothy 1:2 - Paul regarded Timothy as his adopted son
2 Timothy 1:5 - Timothy's mother was a Jewish lady living in Lystra in what is now Turkey. She became a Christian - see Acts 16:1-3
2 Timothy 1:6 - Paul had ordained Timothy for ministry, by laying hands on him and praying. The scriptures do not tell us when this happened, but do mention several times when Timothy was put in charge of a Church or was sent on a mission - see Acts 17:14, 19:22, 1 Corinthians 4:17, Philippians 2:19-23, 1 Thessalonians 3:1-3, 1 Timothy 1:3
2 Timothy 2:12 - see Matthew 10:33, Mark 8:38
2 Timothy 2:19 - see Nahum 1:7, John 10:14
2 Timothy 3:8-9 - Jannes and Jambres were by tradition the names of two of the Egyptian Pharaoh's magicians who opposed Moses - see Exodus 7:11, 8:18, 9;11
2 Timothy 3:11 - see Acts 13:45 & 50, 14:1-5, 2 Corinthians 11:23-27
2 Timothy 3:15 - at this time the Holy Scriptures were just the books of the Old Testament
2 Timothy 4:6 - "departure" here means death
