Write out your 6 "Key Verses" for this week's readings : Give chapter and verse, and write out the complete verse.

  1. Which Old Testament Prophet foretold that the Messiah (Christ) would come from Bethlehem. Give the Old Testament reference to this prophecy (Book, chapter and verse)
  2. Which Old Testament Prophet foretold a "voice crying in the wilderness", and by whom was the prophecy fulfilled
  3. Write an account of the Temptation of Jesus in the wilderness.
  4. What was the message of Jesus' first sermons (see Matthew, chapter 4)
  5. List the nine types of people who are blessed, and their rewards (see Matthew 5:3-12)
  6. Matthew 5:21-48 shows how Jesus reinterpreted the old Jewish Laws. Make a list of each pair (the old sayings, and Jesus' commandments)
  7. What did Jesus tell us to seek first, above all else (see Matthew, chapter 6)
  8. In Matthew, chapter 8, 4 healing works of Jesus are described. Who were healed? What were their diseases? What were the results?
  9. In Matthew, chapter 9, for what sorts of things did the Pharisees and scribes criticise Jesus?
  10. In Matthew, chapter 10, what instructions did Jesus give His disciples when He sent them out on a mission?
  11. How did Jesus describe John the Baptist (see Matthew, chapter 11)
  12. From Matthew, chapter 12, describe two of the things that Jesus and his disciples did, that the Pharisees said were unlawful. How did Jesus answer the Pharisees? What did the Pharisees plan to do?
  13. Write an account of the feeding of the five thousand, and the storm on the Lake, from the view-point of Peter. Write as if you were Peter, telling the story to a group of new Christians many years later.
  14. Write an account of the events at Caesarea Philippi, from the view-point of Andrew. Write as if you were Andrew, telling the story to a friend who had not been there.
  15. Write an account of the Transfiguration of Jesus, from the view-point of John. Write as if you were telling Zebedee about it some time later.
  16. What guidelines did Jesus give for resolving conflicts and for forgiving others (see Matthew, chapter 18)
  17. Write an account of the events and teaching described in Matthew, chapter 21, from the view-point of one of Jesus' disciples. Write as if you were telling it to your children several years later.
  18. How did Jesus answer, when a lawwer asked Him which was the greatest commandment in the Old Testament Law
  19. What did Jesus do and say with Bread and Wine during the Last Supper
  20. After the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus, what were His last commands to His disciples (see Matthew, chapter 28)
