This Week's Assignment : One 10-page discussion Paper, with four main sections :
- How were the Psalms used in the Pre-Reformation Church (AD 500-1500)?
Topics to include : What languages were used, how were they used in the Daily Office (Prayer Services), were particular Psalms used for particular places in the service - How were the Psalms used in the Reformation Churches (AD 1500-1700)?
Topics to include : how various Protestant Churches used the Psalms - the views of Luther (Lutheran), Calvin (Reformed), Cranmer (Anglican); the metrical settings and the Genevan Psalter - How were the Psalms used in Churches in the period AD 1700-1900
Topics to include : the Psalms as sources for Hymn texts - How are the Psalms used at the present day
Topics to include : how does the Church you attend use the Psalms, are any of the hymns your Church uses derived from the Psalms; How do other Denominations today use the Psalms
NOTE - if you are not currently attending a particular Church regularly : Choose a Church to attend for a Sunday (or Sabbath) Service, and then use that in your answer
