![]() HUM / REL 493 - Continuation of Intermediate Latin![]() Course Notes - Week 9The photo on page 171 is of the funerary busts of M. Gratidius and his wife, now in the Vatican Museum. The inscription shown on page 182 is a fragment of a longer inscription, known as the "laudto Turiae" dating probably to 8-2 BC. It is the record of a husband's spoken ōrātiō for his deceased wife. The Latin text on pages 181-182 is an adaptation of the inscription. The Satyricon by Petronius, mentioned on page 174, is a long fictional series of adventures written as a parody of romantic fiction and adventure stories. The Latin excerpt given in the textbook has been considerably abridged, but none of the language has been changed. Main Source : Cambridge Course Teachers' Materials
