Commonly mis-spelled words


 

Word & meaningconfused with
altar : a place for sacrifices alter : to change
bore : past tense of bear, to give birth to begat. A woman "bears" a child; a man "begets" a child
Isaac often misspelled as Issac
Israel - note that the name ends in -el, (not -al)
-el in Hebrew names denotes a relationship to God (El)
their : belonging to them, eg. "their books" there : denoting a place, eg. "I put it there"
where : denoting a place, or asking about a place
eg. "It is where I put it", or "Where is it?"
were : past tense of the verb "to be", eg. "They were in the room"
