Study Topics and Assignments

Module 10, Iron Age IIA
The United Monarchy - 1,000-586 BC

Module Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to :

  1. Describe and discuss the archaeological findings of Iron Age IIA in Israel (CLO C)
  2. Describe and discuss the cultural setting of Iron Age IIA in Israel (CLO D)

Textbook and Bible Readings

The chapters from the textbook contain very little archaeological information, but they do give a good summary of the history of the early monarchy as recounted in the Bible.

The Bible readings are quite long. It is not necessary to study them in depth, but do try to read through them (as if you were reading a newspaper or a book) to get the sequence of events and to fill in some of the things you did not learn in Sunday School.

  • Textbook, chapter 13, "David as King"
  • Textbook, chapter 14, "Solomon as King"
  • Bible, I Samuel, chapters 9-31
  • Bible, II Samuel - whole Book
  • Bible, I Kings, chapters 1-11
